Keepmoat Housing Trial

How high-efficiency shower technology reduced water and energy use, without compromising the resident experience

Keepmoat invited Kelda to take part in a housing trial to evaluate the performance of its Air-Powered™ shower technology within homes delivered in partnership with Sheffield City Council.

The aim was simple: to assess whether significant reductions in water and energy consumption could be achieved while maintaining the shower experience residents expect.

The trial formed part of a wider programme of housing evaluations, alongside similar projects with Barratt Homes, Cala Homes and Vistry, helping build a growing evidence base for high-efficiency shower technology across the UK housing sector.

The Challenge

Reducing operational carbon emissions and improving water efficiency are becoming increasingly important priorities for housing providers and developers.

However, many conventional water-saving showers rely on restricting flow, often resulting in a poorer user experience and lower resident satisfaction.

Keepmoat wanted to explore whether it was possible to achieve meaningful resource savings without compromising comfort.

The Solution

Kelda’s patented Air-Powered™ shower technology was installed within selected trial properties.

Unlike conventional low-flow or aerated showers, Kelda creates large, warm droplets using inspired by aerospace fuel injection principles. This enables significantly lower water consumption while maintaining a powerful, full-coverage shower experience.

The trial monitored both resident feedback and the potential performance benefits of the technology.
